Improved

Update: for regional rail, need better real time display of delayed trains. Trains show as departed but might be 45 minutes late (as happened today). This is a clear improvement over previous versions. I like that I can save my regular rail routes and they’re visible at a glance on the Home Screen- showing info on the next two trains. I can’t get the Septa Key info to connect yet. My login for Septa Key seems to be no help here. But appreciate the real time info on regional rail.

This app is a joke

It gives you a screen to change auto load option but it doesn't do anything. None of the buttons on that page is clickable. I missed my train because I can't f'ing turn on auto load

New here - didn’t allow me to create account

Not worth the time after I spent all that time filling out the info for the account.

Cumbersome

This app is close to useless. Let’s say I want to route myself to a particular destination, and I want to know the location of the various modes of transportation that I need. This is useful if you’re trying to figure out if things are running late, and even more important if you are transferring. However, once you find a route, you have to go individually into a separate tab to find out the location of the various modes of transportation. Apple Maps manages to do this all in a central location, but this app requires you to tap multiple places and lose track of what you’re tracking. That said, it is nice to show bus detours in a coherent way. And if you are simply adding a single route to your favorites, it does provide some useful information on the bus status. Overall, it does not provide a significant difference between what is available on third-party apps as far as location tracking is concerned. However, it is also a useful centralized location for septa key loading and tracking.

Deleted my review

You know your update is trashy when they need to delete bad reviews. Not retyping it all again but don’t both with the new app. It’s practically unusable, can’t count the amount of times atp where it’s sent me on the wrong train

Much Improved

. . . more helpful, easier to use than previous version and looks better too

New Update is Incredible!!

With the new septa app, bus arrivals are reliable and well tracked. It’ll calculate your route like google maps but with more accurate times. It’s so convenient and easy. Writing this for any new philly residents afraid of septa. This app makes it easy, and I’m so glad they updated it! Thanks SEPTA!

Won’t let me create an account on the app

Can’t buy tickets without an account and app doesn’t work for creating an account.

Don’t upgrade

Keep the previous version. Half of the features don’t work, no way to enter a decimal point when adding funds, etc. it’s more of a “downgrade” IMHO.

Trouble loading fare-cursor issues

Somehow worse than the kiosks. When I tried adding fare to my wallet which had $2 at the time, I kept getting an error message saying the transaction could not be processed. I was trying to add $5. I changed the amount to $7 and I kept getting the error message, but suddenly another message popped up saying the payment for fare was successful. However, the app does not reflect the true amount I have on my card. I’m now at a -.50 balance. Even though it told me I added funds. I was able to ride the bus but I did so not knowing how much fare I truly have. Another major issue I have been experiencing in the last week or so (I’m sure it’s been an ongoing one) is the cursor won’t go to the field I need it to when entering any information on the app. This results in me typing information into the incorrect field and giving me errors during loading funds. This app is way more stressful to use than the previous one and Septa has had all the time in the world to get it right. It’s downright frustrating to use.

Old app is easier to see schedule and delay; new app doesn’t reflect real time changes

The new app looks very different and offered some new way to take connected bus/trains. But it is not easy to use and not accurate in real time changes, at least for regional rails. Old app is easier to see schedule and delay. I wish I could go back to the old version.

No Push Notifications?

SEPTA expects you to report stolen cards right away but doesn’t allow push notifications about balance changes, rides taken, etc. Add push notifications.

Fine design, but powered by awful data

The app itself if fine enough, easy to use, but it’s constantly incorrect. When the next train is coming? Incorrect. How long the delay is? Incorrect. Etc etc. it’s unusable because it’s wrong 99% of the time

Overall good

Overall good app. Some issues noticed with regional rail: 1) Alerts sometimes stop working for stretches of time and you don’t realize until it’s too late. 2) Times are inconsistent when moving between screens in the app. 3) Trains disappear off screen before they have arrived. 4) Alerts are communicated with train numbers, but the app does not show train numbers on all status screens. 5) The “schedules” tab doesn’t have train numbers.

Cluttered

New interface is cluttered. I don’t need to know every bus in a 3m radius. I just want the old map and time estimates back. That was the most useful feature. Ive been using Google maps again since the update. Account page is also buggy.

Logged out

I have been using this app since I’ve started taking the train. It’s awesome to load money onto my key card and it’s awesome. Here’s the kicker-I’ve been booted out of my account, my password is not recognized, and the temporary password I’ve requested isn’t accepted either. I go down to see my daughter on the weekends and don’t need this type frustrating to add to what I already have going on. Fix it or you lose another customer.

another terrible jawn

Hard to isolate the information i need. Doesn’t show trains are running late. No indicator a train is late. Can’t limit display to only inbound or only outbound trains. Designed by people who don’t use the app to commute on regional rail.

Is the train on time???

Opening your app to find out if your train is going to be on time is the literal only reason this app exists. And it no longer does that well. At best one would have to click three or four screens to find that information but usually it is inaccurate And the only way to know is to show up at the station. Please fix.

Keytix

Keytix not working after activating it

Nightmare

Worst app I have tried to log into in a long time - Captcha and login wouldn’t work, no help or support - no wonder Uber UX is so simple and easy to use - who designed and supports this app - come on Septa you can do better

Undependable

A nice app concept, but the payment side is extremely buggy to the point that it is utterly undependable for the sporadic user. The usual progression: 1: Try to do something in the app. 2: Encounter a bug, soft-locks. 3: Close/open app to reset. 4: Log-in again, even though the app is set to “remember me.” 5: Repeat. The trip planning side is OK…but google is better.

Internet

Don’t have a stable internet connection when you access it? It’ll log you out! Fun fun fun

Terrible Update

This update has completely ruined the app to the point where it is unusable

WORST UPDATE EVER

They updated a perfectly good app and made it completely useless. Gave me the wrong directions on which line to get on and it almost made me miss an important trip. I had to pay $30 for an uber to make it. AND IT DOSENT EVEN TELL YOU WHEN TRAINS ARE DELAYED. Would give 0 stars if I could. Very annoyed

Much Improved, but Still Lacks Usability

New version does, indeed, reduce phantom buses, but app still uses the schedule instead of real-time tracking most of the time. In addition to scheduled, but nonexistent, buses, buses come while the app shows a twenty minute wait. The latter is something of a pleasant surprise, but the app seems averse to reality. App design is improved, especially with regard to axing the absurd "next to arrive", but still has a long way to go with provision of accurate infomation. "Report a concern" is strictly limited to enroute issues, not disorderly conduct at stations. Why should I need a separate app to contact Septa Police?

Password Change Glitch

The app made it nearly impossible to change my password. The temporary password I was sent did not work after my multiple tries of inputting it. It worked smoothly from my computer, so it doesn’t wasn’t a wifi problem.

Absolutely terrible app update

The new update is pretty much unusable. Next to Arrive was removed and it’s most useful part of the app! Additionally, the train numbers aren’t listed, but cancellations are announced by train number. So how am I supposed to tell if my train was cancelled if I don’t know the number?! It’s not an improved app if you take the most useful features away. The user interface is poorly designed and confusing, lazy programming all around. Huge disappointment for someone that takes SEPTA every day and relies on this app for information.

Not accurate data

Train times are not accurate at all. I don’t know how the feed gets updated but the map has never shown my live train. It’ll show 3 other random trains. If I click on the train I’m waiting for to see previous stops it shows the stops for another train. I know it’s another train because it says my train is already past my station. The data is almost always incorrect.

Alerts are unreliable!!

This very second there is an alert listed as active saying that the Media/Wawa line is still suspended from weather-related damage from the storm this weekend. But APPARENTLY it’s running according to people on the train right now. People who also inform me that the website only says there are 10min delays. I wonder if it was also running when I spent $30 on an uber yesterday to get home because I believed this App?

HORRIBLE UPDATE

After this NEW UPDATE, I have been UNABLE to understand and view the train schedules and see whether or not there my train will be LATE or CANCELED! And with all the recent SUSPENDED trains, I have BEEN LEFT IN THE COLD MULTIPLE TUMES, UNABLE TO TELL WHEN THE NEXT TRAIN WILL ARRIVE. And these HORRENDOUS loud speakers barely do any good. As family member of Penn Hospital workers, and a student, me and my family need to be able to access train schedules to ensure we will not miss classes, appointments, or any assortment of scheduled things. FIX YOUR APP, and STOP CANCELING ALL THE REGIONAL RAIL TRAINS. I AM TIRED OF THE 50 MINUTE DELAYS DURING RUSH HOUR. SEPTA has been running since 1964 and you’d expect for them to learn when trains are most needed, and subsequently, put enough cars on a train or just ensure that the train taking tens of healthcare workers and students to and from regional rail stations WOULD BE ON TIME.

Buy a Pass is not working

In latest app buy a pass option from mobile app is not working. Please help fixing it

Awful

The UI looks better but other than being easier to add money to one’s card, this app is nearly worthless. No alert that the train I take is suspended. The saved trips emphasizes trip duration (which who cares) instead of minutes until the next train arrives (like Baldwin does). The app frequently just says there are no more trains when in reality there are they just aren’t in some window of time the developers selected. You truly are making SEPTA second class.

The new version of this app is unusable

None of the buses I’m trying to track are on the map at all. The schedules all say “no schedule data for this stop”. This was all functional in the old app. It’s frustrating

The Update has Ruined the app

This app was very effective and functional prior to the update in winter of 2024. Since the update the app constantly gives false schedules and trains that do not appear as well as preventing me from linking my septa card to the app as I previously did to track my balance. This is honestly the worst and least effective app on my phone and debating driving into the city from now on because of this terrible update.

Clunky- Does not allow Decimal Points when Reloading Key Card

Next version needs the ability to reload key card with Decimal Points so vents can be added. Also, there should be support for mobile key cards like NJ Transit.

New, Fresh, but Needs Polish

I love the new wayfinding and some of the organization, but some of the interface is kind of clunky and showing some of the elements of the previous design. When in the “nearby” map—the stations for different lines overlap on top of one another. Selecting them is annoying and this could be simplified into one marker. It’s also hard to understand which direction you picked with no description in the pop up when you select a station either. Simplify this feature and the app will shine!

Unusable

I needed to attempt to register about a dozen times before it actually worked. The app kept telling me that my password did not meet the qualifications, but it did. I finally got registered and when I go to login, it’s saying my credentials are wrong but I know that they’re correct because I just tried them 12 times in a row. Lol.

Times can be wildly wrong

Don’t trust the times in the app. I’m not sure why this version is so much worse then the last one.

Updated App is useless

I have to use google maps to find out where my train is if it’s late. Outbound trains show the time of anticipated arrival instead of departure. App is confusing as it is. Very poor design. Old app was better because it actually provided useful information.

Weird usability issues

What happened to Next to Arrive functionality from the old app? Also, form fields in the app have the be tapped twice in order to type in them. First tap minimizes the label to upper right corner, second tap to set focus in the form field so you can enter text. Also, the form fields don’t support password manager so I can auto enter field data saved in my password manager. When I first created my account I got a 500 error, then I resubmitted and got a captcha token error, then I redid the google captcha, hit submit again and it worked. I know how to deal with these weird technical glitches but the average user would be stumped by them.

New update is terrible

I never write reviews but I feel the need to join the others expressing how inconvenient this app is for regional rail users. Please bring back the old app function of showing the scheduled train time and then any delays. Showing a random time that the train is coming is useless, especially if the train catches up from its delay. Also sometimes the train times that show up in the app don’t accurately refresh making it nearly impossible to determine when my train is supposed to come. I also don’t understand when “next to arrive” was removed. This feature was great for helping plan my train from the suburbs to the airport. This is now nearly impossible as far as I can tell. The “leave by” in the trip planning section is useless. I know what time I want to arrive at the airport and need the app to tell me when I should leave by. Please listen to all the reviews here and bring back the old features.

Terrible redesign

The new app is 100 times worse than the prior version. Can’t easily see how long trains are delayed (you know they always are by some amount), past/future schedules are confusing, the alerts aren’t clear, and it doesn’t tell you train numbers in the schedule. But all the alerts refer to trains by number. How does anyone make sense of this madness?

Ate my tickets

I bought a key ticket and activated it once I saw the bus. It disappeared from my account so I bought another one and that one got eaten too. I contacted support for a refund only to be told I scanned them. Stay away from this app it’s a scam

Key card issue

This app used to be simple and straight to the point. Now no matter how many times i’ve tried reinstalling/updating, septa won’t allow me to add funds to my key card. Every time I enter my credentials, it cannot update my card. This has been happening for a couple weeks now.

Bring back next to arrive

Before the latest “fancy”updates to the SEPTA app, I would’ve given this app five stars. Next-to-arrive was the most helpful feature I’ve ever used on a transportation app. I had everything set and could easily navigate. Now I have to open the schedules to make sure I’m on the right train. Aside from that, the app is so much more confusing to navigate. It seems like septa is using Google maps. I am walking distance from a train stop yet when I try to see the next train that’s coming the app tells me to walk to a bus stop and then take the bus to the station one stop further. It’s soooooo overly complicated now. Bring back next-to-arrive!!!!

Garbage

Absolute garbage app. The official app should be reliable when it comes to schedules and tracking (bare minimum). There’s no way I should be showing up to a stop and the app says the transport is arriving with it nowhere to be seen. Septa is on its last legs

Updated App is terrible

I use this app regularly and this latest update is horrible. There is no way to see the times of regional rail in real time. Station times are completely off from what’s shown in the app as well.

Mind blowingly bad

There are too many problems to go into a lot of specifics. The home screen is so unintuitive all you can do is click around and hope you land somewhere. So I’m trying to plan a trip to center city 4 days from now. The first thing it asks is what time do I want to leave. THAT IS WHAT IM TRYING TO PLAN. Just show me a traditional schedule like it used to. And where is Next to Arrive? As a retired software dev manager I can’t believe this made it to beta let alone general release. I mean who looked at this and said “yep. Ready to go”?

New app hardly works and useless

- Old SEPTA app was more reliable. New app takes several minutes to load any information, if at all. - Alerts are inconsistent. -Train delays are also inaccurately listed most of the time and hiding how late a train actually is!
